Let’s talk about the importance of Capsule Wardrobe in our daily lives.
So why have I decided to focus on Capsule Wardrobe again?
Time and time again when I work with my clients the main reason for having lots of clothes but no workable outfits is a fragmented wardrobe. What do I mean by that?
So really, like any structure, outfits need solid foundations in order to achieve a cohesive wardrobe and make dressing a breeze.
However, in many people's wardrobes there are plenty of clothes but they do not mix well together, hence you are struggling to construct your outfits.
There are plenty of reasons for this but the main one is impulse buying. Impulse buying is often closely linked with chasing 'shoppers high'. You buy something new on impulse but never think how that particular item complements your existing wardrobe, hence it ends up gathering dust at the back of your wardrobe because you don’t know how to wear it.
Another reason - you have way too many things.
Amongst all that clutter, you simply forget what you have and end up purchasing exact same items you actually already own. I am talking about 5 pair of identical boots and 4 Oxford shirts in the exact same colour.
So what is a solution for your wardrobe?!
Firstly, do some work in identifying your body shape, style personality, your best colours and understand your lifestyle. Once you have those down, take stock of what you already have in your wardrobe. Take everything out and be honest with yourself, does this item fit your lifestyle? Does it make you feel great? Does it complement your style? Does it suit your body shape? Be really honest!
Secondly, put all the clothes you have selected as your definite yes in one place and start mixing and matching them into workable outfits. Soon after you will start to identify gaps in your wardrobe. Maybe a pair of black trousers and a white tshirt could make your wardrobe more versatile? Put them all on your shopping list. So next time you go shopping be really specific in what you need and only stick to those items that will make your wardrobe functional rather than adding to the problem of massive clutter.
So how does a well-functioning wardrobe look like?
As a starter, the key items to have in your wardrobe:
✔️Plain white tshirt ✔️Fitted blazer ✔️Leather jacket ✔️versatile dress ✔️Great fitting jeans ✔️Cardigan ✔️Pair of smart trousers ✔️Skirt ✔️White trainers ✔️Boots ✔️Vneck jumper ✔️Sweatshirt ✔️Breton top ✔️Ballet flats ✔️Coat
✔️Classic heels
✔️Everyday accessories
This little list will create at least 16 different looks that you will wear time and time again, saving you money and stress of not knowing what to wear.
Once you have your wardrobe foundations sorted, building a functional capsule wardrobe will be a breeze.
Mucho love
